Vijaya Kumar is new officiating DGP of Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday appointed 1988 batch IPS officer Vijaya Kumar as the new officiating DGP. Soon after taking charge, Kumar said that apart from zero tolerance towards crime and criminals, he will focus on improving the behaviour of the police personnel with the public. He also stressed on police presence through foot patrolling.

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday appointed 1988 batch IPS officer Vijaya Kumar as the new officiating DGP. Soon after taking charge, Kumar said that apart from zero tolerance towards crime and criminals, he will focus on improving the behaviour of the police personnel with the public. He also stressed on police presence through foot patrolling.
Kumar, who held the charge of DG CB-CID and DG vigilance, succeeds officiating DGP RK Vishwakarma who retired from the service on Wednesday.

The ceremonial handing over of the charge took place at the UP Police headquarters in Lucknow.
Vijaya Kumar has vast experience of field policing as he served as superintendent of police in Pilibhit, Banda, Gorakhpur, Nainital and Rudrapur (now in Uttarakhand) and was the senior superintendent of police (SSP) in Lucknow, Muzaffarnagar, Maharajganj and Gorakhpur. He also served as IG in Prayagraj and Meerut and was posted as additional DG of Agra and Kanpur zones. He was also ADG home guards.
This is for the third consecutive time that UP will have an officiating DGP. Earlier, DS Chauhan remained officiating DGP from May 12, 2022, till his retirement on March 31, 2023, and was succeeded by RK Vishwakarma. Vijaya Kumar will retire in January 2024.
“No riot has occurred in the state in the past six years. We will take all measures to strengthen the concept of riot-free UP and action will be taken against the disrupters of peace and harmony,” he added.
For the safety and empowerment of women, Kumar said a continuous campaign is being run by forming a special team of Anti-Romeo Squad.
“Uttar Pradesh government is also making continuous efforts to provide a smooth traffic transmission system to the citizens. We are working on a system of Triple-E (engineering, enforcement and education) for an uninterrupted traffic system in the state,” he added.

Further, to fight against terror and syndicate, adequate resources and manpower have been made available to ATS and STF.
“As a result, there has not been any terror incident in the state in the past six years. Also, there has been a complete control on organised crime. Commendable action has been taken by the STF to make the state free from those operating syndicates,” he said.
Kumar added that action has been taken by the state government to strengthen UP112 to minimise the response time in emergency incidents.
While issuing a warning to the criminals, Kumar said strict action will be taken by identifying police station wise mafia and top 10 criminals at the district level.
He appreciated the police for its work being done by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force to take planned action against narco operators in the state as per the instructions of the chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He said police will carry out sustained operations against drug trafficking and smuggling in the state.
