Vigilance Establishment arrests Lucknow sub-Inspector for bribery of Rs 30K

LUCKNOW: Vigilance establishment arrested sub-Inspector Ameen Khan, posted at the Maal Police Station under the Lucknow Police Commissionerate on Saturday.

Ameen was arrested red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by Sameer Kumar, a resident of Ibrahimpur village, Maal Police Station, Lucknow district.

According to the complaint, Sameer alleged that sub-inspector Ameen Khan was demanding a bribe of Rs 30,000 to remove the names of his sister, brother-in-law, and brothers from a dowry harassment case that was being investigated by Khan. The sub-inspector reportedly threatened that if the bribe was not paid, he would send everyone involved to jail.

A confidential inquiry was conducted by the Vigilance Establishment, which confirmed the legitimacy of the complaint. As a result, a trap team from the Vigilance was formed and asked to remain in touch with Sameer.
The team nabbed Sub-Inspector Khan red-handed while he was receiving the bribe from Kumar outside the police station.

An FIR has been registered against Sub-Inspector Ameen Khan at the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Directorate, and legal proceedings are underway.
