Uttar Pradesh: Four killed in road accident on Purvanchal Expressway

LUCKNOW: Four people were killed, and two others sustained serious injuries after the SUV they were traveling rammed into a divider on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur district on Thursday evening. Those injured were referred to Varanasi for better treatment, said the police.

Police said one Akhilesh Mishra, 40, a resident of Haripur Bazar Khargupur in Jansa police station area of Varanasi district, went to Lucknow with his friends and family members in an SUV.

Around 5pm, while returning when they reached Milestone 102 on the expressway the SUV lost control. "It first hit the divider and then overturned and cartwheeled for 50 meters before being blown up in fire," said SHO, Baldirai, Prabhakant Tiwari.

The passers-by and locals heard a loud sound and then rushed to rescue the passengers in the vehicle and simultaneously informed the police.

CO also said that two injured who were identified as Laxman and Durgesh Mishra were sent to Varanasi for further treatment. “The two had fallen off on the road when the SUV overturned,” said CO, Rajaram.
