LUCKNOW: An FIR has been registered against Indian documentary filmmaker Leena Manimekalai for poster of her new film ‘Kaali’ in which a woman dressed as Hindu deity is seen smoking.

The FIR has been registered at Hazratganj police station of Lucknow on the complaint of advocate Ved Prakash Shukla.

Shukla in his FIR stated that the poster of the movie on social media has led to unrest and is hurting religious sentiments of a particular faith.

"Others named in the FIR include film editor Shrawan Onachan and producer Asha associates, who along with the filmaker have been booked under the charges of deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of a class, promoting enmity between different religious groups or faith along with other charged of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," said Akhilesh Mishra, SHO, Hazratganj.

The Indian born Toronto-based director shared the poster of 'Kaali' on social media platforms in which a woman in Goddess Kaali's attire can be seen smoking a cigarette.

In the background, she can also be seen holding the pride flag of the LGBTQ community.
