LUCKNOW: Continuing drive against gangsters and criminals, properties worth Rs 130 crore of former SP MLA Deep Narayan Yadav were seized in Jhansi on Sunday.

Additional director general of police, Kanpur Zone, Bhanu Bhaskar said that a case under the Gangsters Act was registered against Deep Narayan Yadav in Navabad police station of Jhansi.

“In the first phase, properties worth Rs 130 crore which include seven plots in Bhagwantpura and seven other plots in Kharguanji were seized,” said Bhaskar.

“The seizure of assets under the Gangsters Act section 14(1) has been the result of months of hard work and collection of information. It was a multi-disciplinary exercise with many departments including land revenue, registration among many others,” said the ADG.

According to the UP Police dossier, as many as 53 cases have been registered against Yadav, including that of dacoity, rioting, extortion, punishment for wrongful confinement and others since 1988.

Former two-time SP MLA from Garotha constituency of Jhansi district, Deep Narayan Singh Yadav was first arrested on September 26 and sent to jail. Deep Narayan was arrested for his involvement in trying to help former block head and dreaded gangster Lekhraj Singh Yadav escape from police custody.

The ex-MLA has been booked by the vigilance establishment for possessing disproportionate assets known to his sources of income. A case under the section of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered against him in October this year.

The state government had directed for a probe against the ex-MLA by vigilance establishment on June 22, 2022.
