UP nets ₹51,000 crore revenue in 1st quarter of this financial year

Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath held a review of the state’s tax and non-tax revenue and expressed satisfaction at the fact that the state had earned more than Rs 51,000 crore in the first quarter of the current financial year.The CM discussed in detail the revenue accrued by departments like GST, VAT, excise, stamp and registration, transport land revenue and energy. He was told that through planned efforts, there had been an increase in tax and non-tax revenue. In the first quarter of the current financial year, revenue of more than Rs 51,000 crore has been earned by the state. This includes Rs 28,000 crore from GST and VAT, Rs 12,000 crore as excise tax, Rs 7,500 crore from stamp and registration, Rs 3,000 crore from transport, Rs 3,000 crore from transport, Rs 733 crore from energy and Rs 114 crore from land revenue.The CM said that the situation was satisfactory and that the funds would be used for the development of the state and welfare schemes for the people. “There are immense possibilities in the state. With continuous efforts we now have more than 31 lakh traders registered under GST. This should be increased further. We should look at new sources of revenue. Rules should be simplified and there should be reform in processes,” the CM said. “Revenue theft is a national loss. To prevent theft of GST, there is need to increase vigilance. There is also a need to activate special disciplinary units and mobile team units of the state tax department. We have met with some success in the recent past to prevent tax evasion but we need to make improvements. Set targets and each month an action taken report must be submitted to the CM’s office,” the CM said.He added that UP had been successful in curbing sale and manufacture of illicit liquor in the state but that such activities have to be monitored continuously. The CM directed officials to remain active in ensuring that unauthorised liquor is not allowed to enter UP from other states. The excise department should make more efforts at increasing revenue. “Issues between builders and buyers in Noida and Greater Noida should be resolved at the earliest. We should safeguard the interest of every single buyer. Flats should be registered on time and all necessary steps for it should be taken. Vehicles should not be allowed on the streets without permits and fitness certificates. Checking for these certificates should not be a hindrance to normal traffic on the roads. There should be no brokers in RTO offices,” the CM added.
