allahabad: urdu ab ahl-e-zaban ki jageer nahee (urdu language is now no more monopoly of its masters, belonging to northern india). prominent poet from mumbai shamim abbas expressed this view at a literary sitting, organised recently, in minhajpur. explaining the state of affairs of urdu in maharastra, shamim abbas said that it is at its best there, with so many urdu medium schools and colleges, though urdu is not an official language in maharashtra like several other states.
he further said that on the literary front story writers, poets and critics of international calibre salam bin razzaq, anwar qamar, (late) anwar khan, nida fazli, abdul ahad saaz, yunus agarkar and abdul sattar dalvi are such maharashtrian intellectuals of urdu, who do not belong to northern part of the country, where urdu had its origins. retired head of arabic and persian deptt of allahabad university, dr tufail madani, presided and writer-poet khan arman conducted the sitting, which was inaugurated by a 10-year old mohd. azhar khan by reciting a very famous `salam' dr saeed arifi (bahraich), habab hashmi, abdul qadeer (advocate), dr inaam hanfi and intizar ghazipuri, apart from shamim abbas recited their compositions. prominent among other quests were dr kr khan, mohd. ansar, ahmab osama khan, r k khanat, qamrul hasan and masroor ahmad khan who proposed a vote of thanks.
