UP women safe, skilled, employed, flourishing: Govt
Lucknow: On the occasion of Women's Day, UP govt highlighted various steps it took to improve lives of women in the state, especially towards their empowerment and security.A govt spokesperson said Mission Shakti campaign, launched in 2020, had worked towards the empowerment and self-reliance of women. It said 1,694 Anti Romeo Squads are active across the state and 24,871 cases were registered, while 33,268 accused were arrested. Under the Safe City scheme, 7,95,699 CCTV cameras were installed in 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddha Nagar, and 4,150 hotspots were identified.

In Lucknow, 100 Pink Booths were established to deal especially with crimes against women.Under UP Skill Development Mission, women are being trained in more than 1,300 jobs across nearly 35 sectors, including IT, healthcare, fashion designing, electronics, beauty and wellness and retail.In past nine years, women's labour participation in UP increased from 13% to 36%. Under the Lakhpati Mahila Yojana, more than 33 lakh women were identified, and over 18 lakh women already reached the category of lakhpati. BC Sakhi workers carried out financial transactions worth more than Rs 40,000 crore, earning a dividend of Rs 109 crore.Under the 181 Women Helpline Scheme, 8.42 lakh women received assistance.
