LUCKNOW: A 22-year-old undertrial, accused in a theft case, escaped from high security Banda jail on Sunday evening. Jail administration has lodged an FIR and sought help from the district police to trace him.
DIG Jails, Sanjeev Tripathi, said that the prisoner, identified as Vijay Arakh, had gone to work in the fields at noon on Sunday but when locking was done at around 8.30pm he was not found.
"Alarm was raised and a search operation was carried out but still there was no trace of Vijay," said Tripathi.
An FIR has been lodged by jail administration against Arakh on Monday.
Police said Vijay hailed from Banda district only and was lodged in the prison since February 6.
Don-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari is also lodged in the same jail and the whole premises is under round-the-clock surveillance.
