UP suspends jail chief in Sambhal case
Lucknow: The state govt on Friday suspended Moradabad jail superintendent PP Singh for allegedly facilitating unauthorised meetings of Samajwadi Party functionaries with Sambhal violence accused in the jail.
The suspension followed an investigation by DIG prisons Kuntal Kishore which found Singh's role in the matter suspicious. The accused were arrested in connection with Nov 24 violence in Sambhal and lodged in Moradabad Jail.
According to prison rules, such meetings require prior approval and adherence to protocol, which were allegedly bypassed in this case. Reports indicate that despite learning about the unauthorised meetings, PP Singh failed to take action against subordinates or report the matter to higher authorities. The incident gained public attention after SP functionaries made statements following the meetings, which went viral on social media.
Moradabad jailer Vikram Singh Yadav and deputy jailer Praveen Singh were suspended on Nov 4.
