UP power supply meets record demand amid rising temperature
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh govt has claimed to emerge as the leading state in the country in meeting electricity demand despite an intense heatwave that has pushed temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius in several districts.
With power consumption rising sharply, UPPCL has maintained uninterrupted electricity supply across the state.
The state met a record electricity demand of 31,147 MW on June 7, the highest supplied by any state in the country. Uttar Pradesh had also topped the national chart on June 6, when it supplied 31,049 MW. On June 5, the state supplied 29,130 MW. Officials said the consistent ability to meet such high demand reflects UPPCL’s strong operational management and preparedness.
Power demand remained high through the night of June 7 and June 8. The state supplied 30,165 MW at 1 am, 29,190 MW at 3 am and 28,482 MW at 4 am. On June 8, demand-based supply stood at 25,463 MW at 6 am, 22,666 MW at 8 am, 26,288 MW at 10 am, 27,138 MW at 11 am and 27,838 MW at noon.
“The increase in electricity consumption has placed additional pressure on transformers, feeders and other equipment. To address this, maintenance activities have been intensified across the state,” an official said.
UPPCL director (distribution) Gyanendra Dhar Dwivedi said electricity demand has continued to rise due to the prevailing heatwave, but the corporation is fully prepared to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply.
