UP lady constable commits suicide over ill-treatment for asking leave

LUCKNOW: Even as the Supreme Court is batting for gender equality, a lady constable ended her life due to

crass

behavior of her male superior inspector for asking for a leave on Sunday. The lady constable, identified as Monika (27), was deployed as a constable in the CCTNS cell of

Haidergarh

police station in

Barabanki district

.

A detailed suicide note recovered from the room of Monika revealed that she was ill-treated and her leave application was thrown at her face by inspector Parshuram Ojha. She also alleged that she was ridiculed for asking leave by the constable 'moharir' Rukhsar Ahmad. "I am really sorry Mom and Dad, please forgive me for taking this extreme step," read her suicide note. She had also stated in the note that it was our right to take leaves and was under rightful laws.

On Sunday morning, around 11.30 am, one Krishna, also a constable in Haidergarh police station, visited Monika at her rented house in Mitaipurwa. He found the main gate locked from inside and Verma not responding to the calls made to her.

Apprehensive over this, he scaled the boundary wall and was a little surprised to see the doors of her room closed and informed the police. The police came and broke open the door to see Monika hanging from ceiling with a ‘stole’ tied around his neck.

Inspector general of

Faizabad

range, Onkar Singh said that Monika was a native of Hardoi and was unmarried. Taking strong note of the suicide letter recovered from her room, inspector and 'moharir' constable have been sent to the lines and a probe is awaited.
