LUCKNOW: A man in Sitapur has confessed to murdering his six-year-old daughter, Tani, while under the influence of drugs. To evade suspicion, he disposed of her body in a field, where it was later found in a severely mutilated state. In an attempt to mislead his wife, he fabricated a false story about their daughter’s disappearance. The child went missing on February 25, and over the next two days, parts of her body were discovered at different locations in the fields. A post-mortem report confirmed that she had been strangled to death. From the beginning, police suspected close family members and launched an investigation, questioning several individuals, including women from the village.During the probe, it emerged that the accused, Mohit Mishra, had an illicit relationship with a woman in the village, leading to ongoing tensions between the two families. On February 18, a dispute had erupted between them."On the day of the incident, Tani was playing near the house of the woman with whom Mohit was allegedly involved. Under the influence of cannabis, Mohit grew enraged and took Tani to a nearby field, where he strangled her to death on February 25.
Once the effects of the drug wore off, he returned to the field to check her pulse, hoping to take her to a doctor if she was still alive. However, by then, she had already succumbed," police officials stated."Mohit admitted to killing Tani and hiding her body. However, when police later recovered it, the remains were found in a severely mutilated condition. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances that led to this. The lower half of the body is still missing, and search efforts are ongoing," said ASP (South) Sitapur, Praveen Ranjan Singh.Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra visited Rampur Mathura and took Mohit to the crime scene for further interrogation. Several women, including a member of the family involved in the February 18 dispute, were also detained for questioning as police investigate the possibility of additional involvement in the crime. The case remains under active investigation as authorities seek to uncover the full extent of the crime and all those responsible.
