Uttar Pradesh grabs 53 gold medals at national Kungfu competition

LUCKNOW: The players from Uttar Pradesh dominated the three-day 14th National Kungfu competition by winning 53 gold, 35 silver and 20 bronze medals. Organized by the Uttar Pradesh Kungfu Association under the aegis of Indian Kungfu Association, the event held at KD Singh Babu Stadium concluded on Tuesday.
In the senior group, Uttar Pradesh’s Akash Anand won 6 gold medals while in junior group Sanskriti grabbed 6 gold medals and Ajay Singh got 6 gold medals.Team from Manipur stood second by bagging 3 silver, 16 gold and 5 bronze medals. Karnataka team stood third in the competition with 10 silver, 10 gold and 10 bronze medals.
About 400 players from 16 states participated in the competition. Former chief secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari, who was present as the chief guest at the closing ceremony, said Kungfu is a martial art form which makes our body and mind healthy.
Special guest additional chief secretary, sports, Navneet Sehgal said that Lucknow hosting the national level competition of Kungfu was commendable. He said that with this kind of event, along with the traditional art of the country, the players also get an opportunity to learn the art of other countries. Noted film actor from South India Suman Talwar said that training in martial arts must be imparted along with studies in educational institutions. He said that he will talk to CM Yogi Adityanath in this regard.
Uddav Thapa of Nepal surprised everyone with a spectacular display of sword fighting. Sanjay Rajput performed dance and acrobatics with a sword. Niranjan Muktan mesmerized everyone with his Nepali cultural dance performance. Gyan Prakash Tripathi, general secretary of Uttar Pradesh Kungfu Association expressed gratitude to all the guests and participants.tnn
