LUCKNOW: In a major administrative reshuffle on Monday the state government removed the chief secretary and also the director-general of police.
Agriculture production commissioner Naveen Chandra Bajpai becomes the new chief secretary replacing R Ramani, who was appointed after the Supreme Court had ordered the removal of Neera Yadav from the post.
Ramani was considered a stop-gap arrangement at the time of his appointment but continued for the post for almost six months.

Bajpai is a 1972 batch IAS officer.
The transfer of director-general of police Yashpal Singh was being expected for a long time now. He was in the news more because of his wife Geeta Singh's attempt to grab an official bungalow in Gonda.
Bua Singh, the ADG PAC, whom Geeta Singh accused of plotting to kill her, takes over from Yashpal Singh. The latter has been shunted out to police housing corporation as DG.
