Norms to curb ‘all kinds’ of school punishment in UP
Verma has asked all basic education officers to ensure that children are able to express themselves against any kind of punishment inflicted on them. In any such situation, children must reach out to the officials concerned.
Schools have been asked to create a forum where children can freely discuss issues related to corporal punishment. According to the guidelines, every school should also have a complaint box where students can anonymously drop their complaint letters. BSAs have been directed to ensure that the parentteacher committee (at the school level) acts proactively in disposing of complaints. Education officials have been asked to establish a process at the block, district, and state level where complaints of students and action taken by the administration can be reviewed. To ensure the safety of children in schools, BSAs have been directed to conduct security training for teachers according to the module developed by SCERT.
The module provides details like meaning and dimensions of safety and security, a healthy and safe environment at school, cyber security, legal provisions and policies, grievance redressal mechanisms, stakeholders at various levels, their responsibilities and expectations, safety and security kits and emergency medical care. Verma asked BSAs to circulate a copy of the module to private schools and provide training at public schools in offline mode. Govt has launched a toll-free number (1800-889-3277) for assistance.
