RAMPUR: Former MP and actor Jaya Prada has been declared an 'absconder' by a court in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. The court has directed the police to arrest her and present her before it on March 6.
Jaya Prada, who was the BJP candidate from Rampur in the 2019 polls, lost to Azam Khan of the Samajwadi Party. She had previously been elected to the Lok Sabha from Rampur in 2004 and 2009 on a Samajwadi Party ticket, but was later expelled.
The court had issued multiple summons to Jaya Prada, but she failed to appear. Non-bailable warrants were issued against her seven times, but the police were unable to bring her before the court.
The police stated in court that Jaya Prada was evading arrest and all her known mobile numbers were switched off. As a result, the judge declared her an absconder and ordered the Superintendent of Police of Rampur to form a team to arrest her and present her in court on March 6.
