UP cop suspended for demanding bribe

LUCKNOW: A sub-inspector posted at district police headquarters was suspended for demanding a

bribe

from a vendor providing maintenance services for motorcycles used under UP 112. An FIR in the matter was lodged a Wazirganj police station under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act on Friday.

Sub-inspector Rudra Pratap Singh, posted in the clerical department, was suspended. An inquiry has been handed over to the ACP Chowk.

According to the FIR lodged by the general manager of the company, located close to Lucknow University near reserve police lines, he said that on January 13, 2020, when he went to get clearance of the payment held for three months for a motorcycle used by UP 112 cops, the accused cops demanded a commission of 3% of the total pending payment.

The complainant recorded the entire conversation on his phone and handed it over to the inspector HQ in two pendrives.

Sources disclosed to TOI that the accused demanded approximtely Rs 3 lakh to clear the bill amounting to Rs 1 crore.

ACP Chowk Durga Prasad Tiwari said, “The FIR was lodged after the complainant brought the matter to light. We are probing the case.”

ADG UP 112 Asim Arun said, “We appreciate the practice of reporting such a crime. It will set a precedent that will encourage commoners to report similar offences done by police personnel.”
