LUCKNOW: Questioning the state government over its claim that unemployment rate had come down from 14% to 4 % in five years, Samajwadi Party members in the Vidhan Parishad said on Wednesday that there were more than 46 lakh people registered on the government's employment portal.
Labour minister Anil Rajbhar said that the state's unemployment rate was not monitored by the state but by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, as per which UP's unemployment rate has been steadily below the country's average since 2017. He had earlier claimed that between March 19, 2017 and February 13, 2023, about 28 lakh people had registered on the employment portal of whom over 7 lakh had been given jobs. The minister said that the government is now in a position to ensure employment for one crore people after the Global Investors' Summit and has been organising job fairs which have given employment to several lakh people.
The minister said that between March 19, 2017 and now, 5,288 job fairs had been held and almost 7.47 lakh people were given jobs. He added that 33,913 skilled persons like plumbers, carpenters, drivers, painters etc had registered on the sewa niyojan portal. However, SP MLC Ashutosh Sinha countered Rajbhar's claim that about 28 lakh unemployed had registered on the government portal till mid-February.
