UP cadre IPS officer who steered anti-Naxal, UN missions hangs up boots
Lucknow: The 1992-batch UP cadre IPS officer Dipesh Juneja hung up his boots on Friday after an illustrious three-decade career where he held several key postings including central deputation and international assignments. He superannuated from the post of director general (prosecution) in UP.
Juneja served as the superintendent of police in Almora, Rampur, Amroha, Maharajganj and Shahjahanpur and later as the SSP of Gorakhpur, Saharanpur, Allahabad, Meerut and Agra. He also held dual roles as SSP/DIG in Agra, Bareilly and Saharanpur. In 2010, he proceeded on central deputation to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). As DIG, he was posted in the Shimla sector, Chandigarh Frontier and later handled personnel management at ITBP Headquarters. When Juneja became the IG, he oversaw anti-Naxal operations in the Bhopal and Chhattisgarh Frontier and subsequently managed a broad portfolio at ITBP Headquarters. After returning to UP from central deputation, Juneja served as additional director general (ADG) in UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB); security; karmik; and prosecution. He was later promoted to the post of director general in prosecution and CID.During his international stints, Juneja represented India as the contingent commander of the Indian Civilian Police in the UN Mission in Kosovo, leading a 300-member team. During his UN stint, he was also associated with the UN Police Training Centre and conducted standard assessment tests in Kenya, Russia and Argentina.Juneja also contributed to sports and adventure activities. He was the manager of the Indian Ski Team at the World Ski Championship held in Finland in 2017 and is an associate member of the Mountaineering Federation of India. Prior to joining the IPS, he worked with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation in Mumbai. Juneja was awarded the Indian Police Medal in 2010 and the President's Police Medal in 2016, along with the Kathin Sewa Padak, UNMIK/Foreign Service Medal and Kumbh Medal. He also received nine discs and multiple commendation rolls from directors general of ITBP and Uttar Pradesh Police. The decorated officer also pursued academic interests and holds multiple degrees, including BCom (Hons) (gold medalist), MA (economics), MBA, ICWA, LLB, MDPA, MPhil (gold medalist), a postgraduate certificate in cyber law, and a PhD. He has co-authored many books.
