UP (Uttar Pradesh) Election Bypoll Results 2022 Live Updates: RLD wins Khatauli by 22,165 votes; BJP bags victory in Rampur

• According to Times Now reports, SP's Dimple Yadav is leading in Manpuri seat in the early trends.
• Meanwhile, BJP takes a lead in Rampur.

• Mainpuri parliamentary constituency, which fell vacant after the death of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, registered 54.01 per cent voting on December 5.
• Khatauli assembly segment in Muzaffarnagar had recorded 56.46 per cent polling on December 5.
• Rampur had seen a low 33 per cent voting.

• The bypolls Rampur Sadar and Khatauli were necessitated after SP MLA Azam Khan and BJP MLA Vikram Singh Saini were disqualified in separate cases.
• Notably, Khan was disqualified in a hate speech case and the BJP MLA Saini after his conviction and sentence of two-year imprisonment in a 2013 riot case was also disqualified.
• In Khatauli, the BJP is trying to retain the seat by fielding Rajkumari Saini. She is the wife of Vikram Singh Saini.

• The results of the byelections to two assembly and one Lok Sabha seat will not change the complexion of the Uttar Pradesh assembly or the Lok Sabha but they will definitely decide the fate of some leaders.
• The byelection to the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, which was declared vacant following the demise of Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, is extremely crucial for the party and the Yadav clan. Dimple Yadav is contesting the Manipuri byelections to claim Mulayam's legacy.
• For Akhilesh, this election is extremely crucial because ever since he took over the reins of the party, he has been facing a series of defeats. From the 2017 assembly polls to 2019 Lok Sabha polls, then the 2022 assembly polls and the following bypolls in Azamgarh and Rampur, the party has faced losses.
• These byelections are even more crucial for senior SP leader Mohd. Azam Khan, who has not only been disqualified from the state assembly -- which necessitated the bypoll -- but has also lost his right to vote.

amajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav on Wednesday demanded the Election Commission to order repolling in Rampur alleging massive irregularities by the local administration in the bypoll held on Monday.

• In Khatauli, which was a hotbed of the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots in western Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is trying to retain the seat by fielding Rajkumari Saini. She is the wife of Vikram Singh Saini who was disqualified from the assembly after his conviction and sentence of two years imprisonment by a district court in a 2013 riots case.
• RLD candidate Madan Bhaiya, a four-term MLA, had won his last election almost 15 years ago, followed by three consecutive defeats in assembly polls in 2012, 2017 and 2022 from Loni in Ghaziabad.

• The Rampur Sadar, bypoll was necessitated as the seat fell vacant due to senior SP leader Azam Khan's disqualification.
• The BJP in Rampur Sadar has fielded Akash Saxena, who is the son of former party MLA Shiv Bahadur Saxena, against senior SP leader Azam Khan's protege Asim Raja, while in Khatauli, the fight is between Vikram Singh Saini's wife Rajkumari Saini and Madan Bhaiya from the RLD.

• In Mainpuri, Samajwadi Party is locked in a battle for prestige with the BJP. A high-stakes contest was witnessed in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri seat, where the byelection was necessitated by the demise of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav in October.
• Mulayam Singh Yadav's elder daughter-in-law and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav is the SP candidate in Mainpuri, a pocket borough of the Yadav family, while BJP has fielded Raghuraj Singh Shakya, a former confidant of Mulayam's brother Shivpal Singh Yadav.
