In 2019, in the absence of official order, there were complaints of invigilators compelling students to take out shoes in a bid to be extra cautious. The matter was also raised in the Assembly on February 14.

In a review meet, chief secretary RK Tiwari directed Board officials and all DIOS to ensure students are not put to discomfort by taking out their shoes while writing exams. Instead, they should be checked at the entrance of centre itself. He also instructed banning of loudspeakers near centres. Section 144 would also be promulgated near exam centres to ban assembly of people.

“The government has taken adequate measures like CCTV, webcasting, STF deployment, colour coding of answersheets to check copying so centre superintendents and invigilators need not take extreme steps unless directed. Last year, the students were put to discomfort by some centre superintendents,” said Shivlal, additional secretary, UPSEB after the Wednesday meet.

The centres in sensitive districts would be monitored by STF for the second consecutive year. Emphasis would be given to sensitive districts, including Aligarh, Rampur, Mathura, Muzaffarnagar, Ballia, Ghazipur, Pratapgarh, Mainpuri, Gonda, Balrampur, Hardoi, Kaushambi, Jaunpur, Hathras and Etah.

This year, 56.01 lakh students would be appearing in HS and Inter exams beginning simultaneously on February 18. They would end by March 6 and results are likely by April 25.
