LUCKNOW: People from various walks of life came together to celebrate the handicraft and performing art forms of the state on the first day of the three-day UP Diwas celebrations on Tuesday.
Organized by the UP state administration in association with the district administration, department of culture, UP directorate of tourism and department of information and public relations, the handicrafts of 75 districts falling under One District One Product scheme of the state government came under one roof.
Besides, people also witnessed several performing arts and artists from within and across the state.
For Satyaprakash Mishra (30) it was a light evening with family. “My wife and I look for opportunities to visit cultural programmes so that our kids can learn the religious and cultural virtues of our culture,” he said.
In order to learn besides the boundaries of the classroom, Harsh and his friends Satyam and Rishabh escaped their coaching classes to witness the kavi sammelan. “Such poetry contests help in providing motivation to write and know about our country’s rich past,” said Harsh.
Handicrafts stalls remained busy all throughout the day. Among visitors was Karan Singh Thakur (24), a resident of Mumbai who is on a vacation in the city to visit his uncle. “I was informed about the programme by my uncle. I bought a banarasi silk dupatta for my friend and a carpet as a souvenir from my stay here,” he said.
Devendra Kumar Maurya (34) and Brijesh Kushwaha (32) rushed out from their office in Lalbagh to witness the performance of their favourite singer Kanhaiya Mittal. Dedhiya dance and Karma Dance was performed by artistes from Prayagraj and Varanasi respectively in the morning. It was followed by Kathak, Aalha folk song and dance drama.
Tridhara song performance by Rising Malang band, spiritual song performance by an artist from Chandigarh Kanhaiya Mittal and a poetic meet (kavi sammelan) on different dialects like Awadhi, Brij, Bundeli, Bhojpuri, Khadi Boli and Hindi by poets from different parts of the county were organized in the evening. The cultural programmes and handicrafts stalls will be open for the visitors on Wednesday and Thursday.
