LUCKNOW: Commuting between Para and Rajajipuram is set to get easier with the underpass from Bandhu Kothari Marg to Para Railway Crossing opening to public on Thursday. The 167m long, 15ft wide underpass will allow two-way traffic flow, reducing travelling time between the two localities.
The underpass has been built at the cost of Rs 9 crore jointly by Lucknow Municipal Corporation and Northern Railways.
The project was initiated in November 2011 and construction began in May 2012.
The diversion of commuters to the underpass will ease traffic bottlenecks around the railway track and the market on Para Road.
The road is so narrow that people traveling on the route complaints about traffic snarls at almost all times.
Rajesh Asthana, a resident of Rajajipuram who works in a private firm at Para, says he get stuck almost everyday while going to his work through Jalapur Railway crossing road. “The distance from Rajajipuram to Para is not much, in ideal condition it takes only 15-20 minutes to cross the passage but due to unsystematic traffic flow and railway crossing it takes me around 40 minutes to cross it. During office hours the vehicles really move at snails pace and the condition becomes worse if the crossing is closed.”
The LMC officials are also looking forward to convenience of the commuters and say the underpass could bring relief to the people commuting on the route. “The underpass will no doubt save a lot of time and provide a comfortable travel through the passage. Also the market area around the crossing will keep clear for visitors and shoppers.” said PK Srivastava, Additional Municipal Commissioner.
