UP Police’s special task force
(STF) has arrested a man and his one aide for calling up the municipal commissioner of Ghaziabad and posing as the chief secretary of UP and telling him to give the tender of a parking stand to one Arvind Pandey.
The accused arrested by STF from GB Nagar on Monday were identified as
Nitin Kumar of Baghpat
and his aide Saud Khan of Lucknow. The STF sleuths also recovered a white Fortuner, a car and three mobile phones from their possession.
Senior STF officials claimed that Khan was named in many cases of fraud in Lucknow also.
Deputy SP (STF) Vivek Rai said that on November 30, Kumar had called up municipal commissioner of Ghaziabad from a landline number which the accused had used to register on trucaller website and saved it as Secretariat in Lucknow. Kumar posed as chief secretary on phone and instructed the municipal commissioner to give the tender of parking to one Arvind Pandey.
Later, on December 7, Kumar went to meet the municipal commissioner in Ghaziabad while posing as Arvind Pandey and referred to the chief secretary’s call for sealing the deal. Khan had stayed in the car outside.
The commissioner said that he would do the needful and then called up the staff officer of the chief secretary in Lucknow to enquire about the recommendation. However, he was told that no such call had been made by the chief secretary following which the municipal commissioner lodged a case with the cyber cell.
On failing to trace the accused, the cyber cell of Lucknow police then approached the STF who identified the accused and tracked them in GB Nagar.
STF officials said that the miscreants had taken Rs 10 lakh from a private firm on the assurance of getting them the tender of parking stand in Ghaziabad.
One accomplice of Kumar is still on the run.
