LUCKNOW: With two more deaths, dengue has spread its wings in the state capital. The fresh casualties have mounted the toll in the state capital to three and five in the state this year.
According to health department officials, Minakshi Shukla (30), a resident of Madiaon, and Geeta Dwivedi (58), a native of Keshav Nagar, died due to complications following dengue. Both were being treated at a private hospital on Sitapur Road and died due to dengue haemorrhagic fever.
Earlier, Aman Chandpuri, a 22-year-old poet, died due to the vector-borne disease in the city on October 12. One dengue death each was also reported from Unnao and Barabanki in the past.
Meanwhile, 12 fresh dengue cases were reported on Tuesday, of which seven were critical. The new cases were reported from Indiranagar, Vibhav Khand, Takrohi, Vikasnagar, Vishal Khand, Triveninagar,
Aliganj
and Sarvodyanagar. With this, the total patient count in the city has touched 577 since July and 614 since January.
On the other hand, a health department team found larvae of
Aedes aegypti
- the carrier of
dengue virus
- in 58 households in Indiranagar, Ratan Khand, Vibhav Khand and Viram Khand.
Spokesperson of the chief medical officer (CMO), Yogesh Raghuwanshi, said, "CMO Narendra Agarwal has directed all the additional chief medical officers to conduct a surprise inspection and take immediate action if anyone complains."
The key to prevention of dengue is ensuring that there is no clear stagnant water in homes and around, which does not allow the Aedes mosquitoes to breed.
