Two held for killing friend as he married another friend’s sister

Lucknow: Rahul Sahu, 24, a driver whose body was found in a pit in Krishnanagar area on June 8, was murdered by his two friends as an act of retribution for marrying their friend's sister against his family's wishes.Police said Suraj Gupta and Suraj Rawat were arrested on Friday and have confessed to killing Rahul."Rahul, a resident of Kesari Kheda, was lured out on the night of June 8 by the two accused under the pretext of a liquor party. Once Rahul was heavily intoxicated, he was bludgeoned with a stick and his body was dumped in a pit near Piparsand railway station," said ACP, Krishnanagar, Vikas Pandey."This was a case of personal vendetta carried out under the guise of friendship. The arrested duo held a grudge against Rahul for marrying the sister of their close friend, Gulshan," said Pandey.Police said that Rahul's leg was also broken in a previous attack, which even led to Rahul's wife attempting suicide by jumping from a rooftop, resulting in serious injuries.On the night of the incident, Rahul was reportedly taken away by Suraj Gupta, Suraj Rawat, Gulshan, and one Lovkush Yadav. When he failed to return, his family reported him missing the next day. Based on their complaint, police detained Suraj Gupta and Suraj Rawat, who then revealed the location of the body during interrogation.The body was exhumed and sent for post-mortem, after which it was handed over to the family on Thursday."We have intensified efforts to nab Gulshan and Lovkush. More arrests are likely as the investigation progresses," said ACP Pandey.
