LUCKNOW: Two con men were arrested during a raid at a management institute in Nigohan on Wednesday. A bunch of youths were attempting the exam for ticketing assistant in Air India at the institute. They had already paid thousands of rupees to the two accused, in return for an assurance that they would pass.
The accused were identified as Nirmal Pandey, a bachelor in business administration (BBA) from Allahabad and a resident of Pratapgarh and Dilip Singh, MA and a resident of Mohanlalganj.
Both were masters in the art of duping gullible youths in the name of providing employment. They had chosen Babu Sunder Singh Institute of Technology and Management in Nigohan, about 35 km from the city, as the exam centre. They even got printed some question papers. Their plan was to take the amount and flee.
It all started a few months back. Nirmal had appeared in a similar exam and there he befriended some other candidates. He claimed that they could clear the exam next time, provided they pay some amount. He remained in touch with the candidates and introduced them to Dilip also to convince them. The duo took up to Rs 40,000 from these candidates and arranged a fake exam of ticketing assistant in Varanasi. The exam centre was Marigold School near Bhojipur in Varanasi. Around two dozen candidates appeared in the exam held on March 22, 2011. Since no one was selected, the two then asked them to appear in another exam in Lucknow. Those appearing for the re-exam were asked to pay Rs 5,000. However, one of the candidates, Devesh Singh found the procedure fishy. He lodged a complaint with DIG, D K Thakur, who handed over the investigation into the matter to SP (crime) Gyan Prakash Chaturvedi. The police called up Air India, only to be told no such exam was to be held on Wednesday. Then a raid was conducted the two accused were arrested.
