Transition delay mars Abhay's interrogation

LUCKNOW: The interrogation of mafia-don Abhay Singh faced a roadblock as his transition from Faizabad to Lucknow got delayed by around 10 hours. The mafia don could only be brought to Lucknow from Faizabad at around 9 pm on Thursday.
Owing to the delay in bringing Abhay, the Lucknow police could not start the interrogation of the mafia don.
The fact was confirmed by Aliganj circle officer Amit Pathak while talking to TOI on phone.The police team arrived with the mafia-don between 8.30 and 9 pm, Pathak said.
Even though the custody time of the mafia-don started from 11 in the morning, there was an initial delay in handing over of Abhay to the investigating officer by jail authorities as the radiogram in this regard had not reached Faizabad.
It was only after receiving the radiogram that Abhay was handed over to the investigating officer, sources said.
All this consumed a couple of hours. After being handed over, Abhay was to be presented in a case in Faizabad.
That also took a lot of time, sources said and added that Abhay came out of the hearing only by evening. It was after this that the investigating officer left for Lucknow with the mafia-don.
The court had permitted 24-hour custody remand of Abhay, beginning on February 3.
The orders were passed after the investigating officer in CMO Dr Vinod Arya murder case filed an application seeking permission for Abhay's police remand.
Abhay, the police claimed, had allegedly orchestrated the murder of CMO Dr Vinod Arya, which had rocked the state capital on October 27.
Abhay's name had cropped up after some sharp shooters arrested in the murder case on December 12 told the police that contract to kill Dr Arya was given by Abhay Singh to the brother duo - Sumit and Amit Dixit.
Special operations group (SOG) of DIG, Lucknow, had arrested two sharp shooters who were claimed to have been involved in the murder of Dr Arya, a chief medical officer posted at family welfare department, on October 27.
Dr Arya was on a morning walk along with his pet dog when the miscreants had shot him dead just in front of Rani Laxmi Bai School in sector 14, Vikas Nagar, a few metres away from his house.
The two sharp shooters were identified as Vijay Dubey and Ajay Misra.
Dubey then had told the police and special operations group (SOG) sleuths that the contract to kill Dr Arya was given by Abhay.
The contract amount was claimed by Dubey to be Rs 5 lakh.
Dubey had told the police that Abhay had given the contract to Sumit Dixit alias Anshu and his brother Amit Dixit alias Annu, who subsequently had given the task of eliminating Dr Arya to Sudhakar Pandey, who is still wanted by the police.
