Man dies after colliding with police barricade
Lucknow: A 30-year-old man, Wahid, collided with a police barricade in Hazratganj area while returning home after dining with friends late Tuesday night and later succumbed to his injuries.Wahid, who was riding his friend's sports bike, lost control and crashed into the barricade set up on the road for routine checks. His friends rushed him to the civil hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.Wahid's wife, Amreen, said that her husband originally left home on his scooter but decided to switch vehicles with his friend. On his way back, Wahid collided with the barricade, which, according to the family, lacked proper reflectors and lighting, making it difficult to spot in the dark.Wahid, who is survived by his wife and their two sons, Arhaan (11) and Ayan (5), was planning to move to Saudi Arabia for work. His visa process was underway, and the family were eagerly waiting for approval when tragedy struck.Inspector Vikram Singh said, "The group of five to six people left together from Hazratganj at around 12am on Wednesday. They were speeding from the Golf Club crossing towards Samta Mulak crossing when Wahid's bike hit the barricade near the DGP residence."A speed metre installed on Lohia Path indicated that Wahid was travelling at approximately 110 km/h at the time of the accident, he said.Over-speeding and stunt-related accidents on the riseThis incident comes amid growing concerns about the increase in accidents, particularly those related to speeding and bike stunts. Hazratganj has become a hotspot for such incidents, prompting the police to set up barricades across major roads, especially on Lohia Path, where reckless driving and stunts are common during late-night hours.
