LUCKNOW: The KGMU toppers want to go abroad for higher education and specialised training, but come back and serve the country.
Megha Mittal, who won the coveted Hewatt medal, by securing highest marks in MBBS, was in tears when felicitated by the prime minister. "I never thought that I would get the award from the PM," she said while waiving at her proud parents.
Same were the views of Sonal Mishra, the BDS topper.
Daughter of MC Mittal, engineer by profession, and Meena Mittal, housewife, Megha gave credit of her success to parents and teachers. She wants to become a specialised paediatrician. She won six gold medals and one silver medal. Daughter of Dr YC Mishra, head department of dental science, GSV Medical College, Kanpur, Sonal took dental science at the instance of her father. She said dental science was being neglected in the country. She wants to serve in rural places after getting a specialisation degree.
Total eight meritorious students, including Megha, four each from MBBS and BDS were felicitated on the occasion. There was resentment and disappointment among other meritorious students, who had also won medals for various achievements, for not being able to receive felicitation from the PM as his visit was restricted due to paucity of time.
