Top seed Ranjeet cruises into semis
Lucknow: Top seed VM Ranjeet of Tamil Nadu displayed complete dominance, cruising past Delhi's Tushar Mittal 6-0, 6-3 to enter the men's singles semi-finals of the AITA Men's Prizemoney Tennis Tournament, underway at Unnad Tennis Academy. Second seed Eklavya Singh of UP delighted the crowd with a 6-4, 6-3 win over fellow UP player Sanidhya Dwivedi. In other quarter-final matches, Delhi's Rain Sharma defeated UP's Hanu Verma in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, while Gujarat's Dharmil Shah caused an upset by eliminating fourth-seeded Nishit Naveen of Karnataka 6-3, 6-2. In the doubles quarter-finals, the Delhi-UP pair of Faizur Rahman and Vansh Yadav easily dispatched UP's Anuj Kumar and Anurudh Kumar 6-0, 6-4, while Sarthak Gulati (Pun) and Tanishq Jadgav (Mah) overcame Govind Maurya (UP) and Devraj Gohil (GJ) 6-3, 6-4. Gujarat's Dharmil Shah teamed up with Tushar Sharma (DL) to win 6-2, 6-2 against Dev Sinha (JH) and Nishith Naveen (KA). In the last match of the day, Eklavya Singh (UP) and Tushar Mittal (DL) pipped Saurabh Singh and Shobhit Tandon (UP) 6-0, 6-3. Babu XI outplay Gandhi Club KD Singh ‘Babu' XI outplayed Gandhi Club, Barabanki 3-1 in the exciting opening encounter of the 1st Fazal-Ur-Rahman Memorial Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament at CB Gupta ground on Wednesday. Babu XI opened their account in the 9th minute with a brilliant field goal by skipper Kalash. In the 27th minute, Arpit Singh doubled the lead by converting a well-earned penalty corner. In the 36th minute, Arman sounded the board to extend the lead to 3-0. Gandhi Club's skipper Samao netted a late consolation goal in the 59th minute for his team. In the second match, Fazal-Ur-Rahman XI registered an easy 4-1 win over Ravindra Pal XI. Ritik, Piyush, Ruman-ul-Hasan, and Tarun scored in the 7th, 21st, 33rd, and 48th minutes, respectively, while Mann Dhanuk of Ravindra Pal XI managed to put one in the box in the 29th minute. Yorker Club crush Indian Eleven Yorker Cricket Club crushed Indian Eleven Cricket Club by a massive margin of 191 runs in an ‘A' division match of the 20th BBD Cricket League at GCRG ground on Wednesday. The match, reduced to 35 overs due to a delayed start, saw an outstanding batting performance from Samarth Dixit, who scored a brilliant 91 off 61 balls, and Devansh K Singh, who contributed 56 runs. Their efforts propelled Yorker Cricket Club to a formidable total of 273 runs in 35 overs. Kushagra (3/56) was the only notable performer with the ball. In reply, the Indian Eleven batting line-up fell like a pack of cards, managing only 95 runs in 23.1 overs. Kartik Yadav was the standout bowler for Yorker Cricket Club, taking three wickets for just 13 runs in his 6.1 overs. He was well supported by Vikas Yadav (3/25) and Ayush Pandey (2/24). In another ‘A' division match, REPL Crusaders defeated NER by six wickets. Batting first, NER scored only 103 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 30 overs. In reply, REPL achieved the target in 19.4 overs for the loss of four wickets.
