Ton-up Shoaib, Sameer script UP’s massive win over Pondicherry

Lucknow: Shoaib Siddique's explosive 162-run knock and Sameer Rizvi's unbeaten 137 helped defending champions Uttar Pradesh kick-start their Men's Under-23 State A Trophy campaign with a commanding 208-run win over Pondicherry at the Motibaug Cricket Ground, Vadodara, on Tuesday.
Batting first, UP posted a formidable total of 443/4 in 50 overs. Siddique smashed 162 off 125 balls, hitting 12 fours and nine sixes. He shared a 56-run opening stand off 53 balls with Shaurya Singh (43), who was caught by Saie Sharan off Nitin Pranaav. Siddique then added 150 runs with Adarsh Singh (74) for the second wicket and a massive 198-run partnership with Sameer Rizvi for the third, before being caught by Adil off Nitin Pranaav.
In reply, Pondicherry was bowled out for 235 in 48.4 overs. Neyan Kangayan (59), Sai Hariram (49), and Jaswanth Sriram (30) were the only notable performers. Shaurya Singh claimed three wickets, while Kunal Tyagi took two.
"After scoring over 500 runs in the last edition, I'm glad to hit a century in the opening encounter. Credit must go to Vikramjeet Singh, who motivated me throughout," Siddique said.
