Lucknow: A man, his brother and father were booked for allegedly abducting, gang-raping and forcing a dalit woman to convert to Islam for marriage in Gonda. The incident came to light when the woman, 23, escaped from the clutches of her captors and shared her ordeal with her parents.
SP Gonda, Santosh Mishra, said an FIR was lodged under the charges of gang rape, and under relevant sections of the ST/SC (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act (2020). “Efforts are on to nab the accused,” he said.
“In his complaint to the police, the rape survivor’s father said that the main accused had been trying to convince his daughter for marriage but she was reluctant. On June 23, she was abducted,” the SP said. He said the accused called a cleric to force her to convert to Islam. “When she resisted, the main accused, his brother and father allegedly raped her,” he said. tnn
