Temples start preparationsfor holy month of Shrawan

Lucknow: The Shiva temples in the city have begun preparing for the holy month of Shrawan beginning Tuesday. Shrawan is celebrated by offering prayers to Lord Shiva who saved the world by consuming poison at the time of Samudra Manthan.This year instead of 30-days, the month will be celebrated for 59 days due to the confluence of adhik maas. Adhik maas is the extra month which occurs once in three years as per Hindu calendar.At Buddheshwar temple, Rudrabhishek with items, including milk, honey, curd and gangajal, will be organized from 7 am to 9 am daily. “Hawan and Mahamrityunjay will be organized throughout the month. Bhandaras, including falhar and poori sabzi, will be organized every day. Besides, there will be a special arrangement for kavad yatris on the temple premises,” said member of temple managing committee Arvind Singh.As per head priest Mankameshwar temple Mahant Devyagiri, the decoration of the Shivalinga will be organized with the help of fruits and eco-friendly items. “Special celebrations will be organized every Monday in the entire month,” said Devyagiri.Mahakal temple will be decorated in a blue and white theme. The Bhasma arti will be organized every Monday while Rudrabhishek will be organized everyday with items brought from Mahakaal temple, Ujjain. “Akhand jyot brought from Ujjain will be seen lightened up for the entire month of Shrawan. It is after 19 years that adhik maas will confluence with Shrawan,” said member of temple managing committee Atul Mishra.
