Tales of love from the Ramayana were depicted in a play 'Prem Ramayana' staged at UP Sangeet Natak Akademi on Friday as a part of 10-day diamond jubilee celebration of Darpan Theatre group.

LUCKNOW: Tales of love from the Ramayana were depicted in a play 'Prem Ramayana' staged at UP Sangeet Natak Akademi on Friday as a part of 10-day diamond jubilee celebration of Darpan Theatre group.
The second day was dedicated to one of the founders of the group Maya Govind. Prof Satyamurti samman was given to veteran theatre artist Vijay Vastav.

Directed, written and narrated by Atul Satya Kaushik, the play was staged by Film and Theatre Society.

It revolved around the love of five couples from Ramayana. The main characters were played by Arjun Singh, Sushmita Mehta and Megha Mathur.
The director also acted as omniscient narrator of the play supported by live music by Latika Jain.
The story of Laxman and Urmila showed how the couple coped 14-year separation when Laxman escorted Ram during his exile.
The tale of Sulochana and Meghnaad shows how Sulochana contemplates after his death that had women been in charge of affairs, many lives could have been saved.
The play ended with a fictional depiction of Ram and Sita remembering each other after she is exiled to Valmiki ashram. The play got a loud applause from the sudience.
