LUCKNOW: Eight police zones are reviewing performance of non-gazetted police personnel, under a centralized appraisal mechanism, from Class 4 staff to police inspectors in the age-group of 50 and over (as on March 31, 2021).
Non-performers and tainted policemen may be compulsorily retired as per the policy. A senior officer at the DGP headquarters said the eight police zones would soon send their reports after scrutiny of records.
1x1 polls
Some police zones have already submitted their report. The process is being expedited with the culmination of assembly polls and the government has set a deadline of March 20, the officer said.
Sanjay Singhal, additional director general, establishment, said the career record of police personnel who turned 50 or over is being examined, as per rule, but emphasis would be laid on performance over a 10-year period before action is initiated.
"The exercise was carried out by different screening committees constituted in districts, police ranges, and zonal levels. The committees scrutinized 10-year data, including annual reports, for negative entries, whether they are corrupt or habitual offenders. This forms the yardstick to decide on a cop's continuance in the force," Singhal said. An SP-rank officer is evaluating records of constables and head constables, while a DIG-rank officer is reviewing performance of sub-inspectors and of inspectors. Also, if the record of a cop attaining the age of 50 or over has been scrutinized once, it would not be carried out every year.
