LUCKNOW: A couple was charred to death while their son suffered severe burns when the SUV in which they were travelling caught fire in Rae Bareli on Monday.
While
Sohanlal, 60, died trapped inside the SUV, his wife, Chandrawati, 58, and son Anuj, 32, were rushed to the hospital where the woman succumbed while Anuj’s condition was stated to be critical.
Anuj’s cousin Astha, who was also travelling with them, too suffered burns.
Both are undergoing treatment at a Lucknow hospital.
Superintendent of police, Rae Bareli, Shlok Kumar said that the victims were travelling in an SUV and had reached Gurbakshganj police station when their car allegedly lost control and collided with a culvert near Kilauli SJS School.
“The car caught fire and the passengers started shouting for help,” said Kumar.
The locals informed the police and fire team that immediately rushed to the spot, evacuated the passengers and also doused the fire.
Police said that Sohanlal was found dead in the car while Chandrawati who was unconscious was taken to local CHC where doctors declared her brought dead. Anuj and his niece Astha were referred to KGMU Trauma center in Lucknow.
Police also said that Sohanlal was a retired government servant while Anuj works in a bank.
Earlier on Sunday, a Lucknow-based stationery shop owner and his two employees travelling in a car were charred in a road accident on Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur district late Sunday night.
