Lightweight jewellery in demand this Dhanteras
Lucknow: Lightweight jewellery and coins are in demand on Dhanteras due to steep rise in gold prices, revealed a TOI survey ahead of the festival.As investing in the precious metal is considered auspicious during Diwali, people are flocking jewellery store and booking items in advance. The rate of silver is approximately over Rs 91,000 per kg and gold Rs 81,000 per 10 gmLucknow Sarafa Association vice-president Adesh Jain said, "Gold and silver are at their highest prices at present. Silver items, gold/silver coins and lightweight gold jewellery is in demand because it suits the budget of people". Ranjini Srivastava (65), who had come for shopping at a shop in Chowk, said that she booked a bracelet for her daughter and a gold ring for daughter-in-law, but could not buy anything for herself as the budget did not allow. Another customer, Vidya Kapoor (46), said, "I had planned to book a gold set for myself this Dhanteras but as the rate of gold is extremely high, I have opted for silver ornaments." Jeweller Umesh Patil said, "People are buying silver puja thalis, bowl sets and 10 gm coins, payal, bichiyas and nose rings instead of heavy jewellery."A jewellery shop owner at Aminabad market Samit Rastogi said, "In gold, customers want lightweight gold kanthi sets, studs and bangles, while in silver, they are preferring table bowls, puja thalis, idols of Lakshmi Ganesh and Radha Krishna".Ameesha Narang, who visited a jewellery shop in Aminabad, said, "I have booked a lightweight thin gold chain for my two year old son and for myself, a silver puja thali, a pair of anklets and a nose ring". Another customer Urmila Narayan (65) said, "I had planned to purchase something of gold but seeing the current rate of gold I have booked two 10 gm silver coins, puja thali and bichiya for myself".At Bhootnath market, Sanjay Raj bought a gold chain for her two-year-old daughter. A shopkeeper at Bhootnath market, Amitabh Srivastava said, "Silver jewellery is in high demand these days."
