Madhumita Shukla murder: SC seeks replay on convict’s plea for remission

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sought the Uttarakhand government's response on a plea seeking the premature release of one of the convicts in the 2003 murder case of 26-year-old poet Madhumita Shukla.
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih issued notice to the Uttarakhand government on a plea by Rohit Chaturvedi seeking direction to a competent authority for ordering his premature release. Additional Advocate General Garima Prasad, appearing for the UP govt referred to judgments of SC in Bilkis Bano case on Jan 8 and May 13, 2022 and said the competent authority in this case will be Uttarakhand govt.PTI
