lucknow: the government has banned cultivation of 10 varieties of sugarcane which are now uneconomical and outdated. the new crop of these varieties will not be purchased by the sugar mills in the state in the crushing season 2002-03 and 2003-04 respectively. the varieties of sugarcane banned are ko. sha 687, 96260, 86218, 87231, 91269, ko. se 92234, 98234, 94423 and ko.
sha. lakh 8102. giving this information, cane commissioner anant kumar singh said that the department would not distribute the seed of these varietes to the cane growers. he said that some varieties had been released for limited propagation in certain areas only.
