Student arrested with illegal pistol at Metro stn

Lucknow: A 19-year-old student was arrested with an illegal country-made pistol at the KD Singh Babu stadium Metro station in Hazratganj area during routine checking on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.Police said a 0.315-bore illegal pistol was found in his bag.
"The arrest was made after a bag belonging to the accused was flagged during X-ray screening at the Metro station. Metro security personnel immediately alerted the police, following which a team from Hazratganj police station reached the spot and took the youth into custody," said Vikram Singh, SHO, Hazratganj police station.The accused was identified as Akshat Kanaujia, a resident of Vrindavan colony in the Dilkusha area of Lucknow. A case under section 3/25 of the Arms Act was registered against him at Hazratganj police station.According to a police statement, during preliminary questioning the accused claimed that he found the pistol near Janeshwar Mishra park and carried it with him when he boarded the Metro. He was caught after the weapon was detected during security screening.The FIR in the case was lodged on the complaint of sub-inspector Ankit Kumar. The investigation is being carried out, police said.The accused will be produced before the court, and police are verifying whether he has any prior criminal record or links to illegal arms networks, officials added.
