Lucknow: To mark the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyanchand, which is also celebrated as the National Sports Day, a three-day Major Dhyanchand sports festival is being organised in Jhansi, his native place.
Ashok Dhyanchand, son of Major Dhyanchand, said: “We are organizing Major Dhyanchand sports festival. A three-day football tournament (August 27-29) is being held at Heroes Club or Dhyanchand Samadhi Sthal.”
“On Monday, we will hold a prayer meet and pay tribute at the statue of Major Dhyanchand. Former Hockey Olympians and international players will be present on the occasion. These players include Romeo James, Merwyn Fernandes, Jalaluddin Rizvi, Vineet Kumar Sharma, Tushar Khandekar, Danish Murtaza, Ashok Diwan, Onkar Singh, RP Singh, Virendra Singh, Neha Singh, Jamsher Khan and Rajneesh Mishra, among others,” he said.
