Onam festivities light up city with colour, culture

Lucknow: Continuing the celebrations of Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, the Kerala Samajam organised a vibrant event at the CMS auditorium on Sunday. Men wore white lungis and shirts, while women were adorned in white sarees with golden borders and gajras.A colourful rangoli at the entrance of the hall welcomed visitors as the programme commenced with Saraswati Vandana performed by Dipti Singh and Kirti Singh, followed by the play 'Maveli Varavelpu.' A semi-classical dance was presented by Arohi, Snehanshi, Avika, Agrima, Kaashvi, Chandini, Akshita, and Vaanya, while Meena Nair captivated the audience with semi-classical songs in her mellifluous voice. The UP Kalaripyattu Association showcased the traditional martial art of Kerala, and classical songs were performed by Seema Nambyar. Merlin Susan Cheriyan and Mable Susan Cheriyan also presented a cinematic dance performance.Chief guest ADGP, GRP, Prabash D said that it felt like Kerala had come to Lucknow. "I am very happy to see men and women dressed in traditional attire. It makes me feel that I am not away from home," he said.
