Lucknow: The
Samajwadi Party and the
BJP hit out at each other over law and order under their governments with the former criticizing the latter over Gonda custodial death case.
SP members in the Vidhan Parishad said that despite a poor track record in law and order and the farcical claim of ‘bhaymukta’ UP, the BJP government has always been in a self-congratulatory mode.
Quoting a report of the National Commission for Women, SP MLC Ashutosh Sinha said that in 2021, 30,684 cases of crime against women were reported from the country of which 15,828 were from UP. “Besides, the National Crime Record Bureau has shown that in cases of kidnapping, forced marriages, extortion and custodial deaths, UP has topped among states,” he said.
Meanwhile, leader of the house
Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “On September 14, a contractual employee of the power department along with his relatives went to a police station where he was required for questioning. As he started feeling unwell he was taken to a hospital, but died. Later, a doctors’ panel was set up and postmortem was done. Ten police officers wree suspended by the government.”
