LUCKNOW: On Independence Day in 2016, in his address after flag hoisting at the party headquarters in Lucknow,
Samajwadi Party patriarch
Mulayam Singh Yadav had dropped broad hints that all was not well within SP. The party founder had said that if Shivpal left the party, it would be a divided house. A year later, his words proved true as, on Tuesday, while Mulayam and Shivpal led a march in
Etawah
, the party's national president
Akhilesh Yadav hoisted the Tricolour at the party office in the state capital.
"This is the first time Netaji (Mulayam) was not present at the party office on Independence Day," recollected a party veteran, now with Akhilesh. The mood at the party headquarters was upbeat with
Akhilesh
addressing party workers after unfurling the national flag. In 2016, Mulayam Singh stood by his younger brother Shivpal, then senior minister in Akhilesh cabinet. This time too, the two were together, leading a 'Shaheed Sandesh Yatra' in Etawah, 225km from Lucknow.
