LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh politicians appear to be giving the Madhya Pradesh Police (MPP) a tough time in the politically surcharged pre-election atmosphere. On Tuesday, a contingent from MPP swooped down at the Jhansi residence of the local Samajwadi Party (SP) MP, Chandrapal Singh Yadav seeking his arrest in connection with a case of attempted kidnapping and assault of an officer of MP Police in Chattarpur district on Monday.
On Saturday itself, the MP Police have registered a case against forest minister Fateh Bahadur Singh and his six associates accusing them of violating the election's model code of conduct.
On Monday night, Chandrapal Singh Yadav along with SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's MP son, Akhilesh Yadav were campaigning for their party candidate in Chattarpur district when they were stopped by the local police to check if they had the mandatory permission from the election commission. This reportedly irked Chandrapal beyond control and he lambasted the police officer for his "audacity'' to ask for the EC permission.
The officer was reportedly mobbed, pushed and publically abused allegedly by Chandrapal in full public view. A section of the mob tried to push the officer in question into one their vehicles as well. Police have registered a case of assault and attempted kidnapping against the SP MP who is now absconding.
