LUCKNOW: Manager of a collage in Ghazipur district and Samajwadi Party leader
Anil Yadav was shot dead late on Thursday night. In the absence of any known dispute or enmity, police do not ruled out political rivalry behind the incident, police said.
Reports reaching the director general of police headquarters here on Friday said 34-year-old Anil was the manager of Sudershan Inter College situated in the Nandganj locality on the outskirts of Ghazipur district in Uttar Pardesh.
On Thursday evening, he went to visit some friends and was returning home late in the night when he is believed to have been intercepted by motorcycle-borne miscreants who opened fire from a close range.
Anil reportedly died on the spot before any medical help could reach him. On the basis of statements of local residents, police said that the assailants were either two or three in number.
Police said that the victim's family has named four persons on the basis of suspicion but avoided identifying them on grounds that it might affect the police investigation.
Initial investigations said that a sophisticated firearm was used to execute the crime suggesting involvement of professionals behind the crime. Police said efforts were on to trace the culprits. A case of murder was lodged with the Ghazipur police in connection with the incident and the body sent for post-mortem examination.
