The SP on Tuesday declared two more candidates for 2014 Lok Sabha elections, taking its tally of declared candidates to 75.

LUCKNOW: The SP on Tuesday declared two more candidates for 2014 LokSabha elections, taking its tally of declared candidates to 75. The party announced Gorakh Prasad Paswan and HarvanshSahayKushwaha as its candidates from Basgaon (reserved) and Salempur constituencies respectively. Bansgaon parliamentary constituency in Gorakhpur is presently represented by KamleshPaswan of the BharatiyaJanata Party.

In 2009, Paswan had defeated ShriNathji of BSP by over 50,000 votes. Samajwadi Party candidate SharadaDevi had come a distant third. Though reserved for the scheduled caste, the constituency has a significant number of thakurs, mainly Srinets and Chauhans.
Salempur in Deoria is represented by BSP's Rama Shankar Rajbhar, who had defeated Bhola Pandey of Congress by 18,000 votes in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. Here too, SP candidate Hare Keval had come third spot.
