LUCKNOW: Family members of slain chief medical officer Dr BP Singh have reiterated their demand for a CBI probe in the case. "We would continue to ask for a CBI probe, till our voice is heard," said Dr Singh's brother Indra Pratap Singh. "A state agency could easily buckle before the powers. But, I'm sure that CBI won't," he added. Dr Singh's son Rohit also made the same demand. "There is no better agency (than CBI) to do this job," he said.
However, the Provincial Medical Services Association (PMSA), which Dr Singh had represented for two terms as general secretary, trusts the government. "What we want is that perpetrators behind the killing must be exposed. We should trust the government and its agency first," said Dr DR Singh, the newly appointed president, PMSA.
Dr DR Singh'spredecessor, Dr UK Rai and his team had wanted a CBI probe in the case. On April10, PMS association's executive body was to meet and decide on how to stressupon their demand. In the evening, association's general secretary Dr KS Pandeyannounced that they would proceed for an indefinite strike from April 12.
But,before midnight, everything changed.
On Thursday, when a shanti paathwas organised by Dr Singh's family, UP Congress chief Rita Joshi paid a visitand assured to stand by them. Her workers had taken out a protest march callingfor a CBI probe in the case early this week. The workers were allegedly bashedup by the local administration. The next day, she addressed media and paradedthe `victims' before the press.
